Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, a Nigerian singer and elder brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has spoken out after regaining his freedom alongside Ann, a close friend of the actress, following their controversial arrest allegedly connected to billionaire politician Senator Ned Nwoko.
Sammy West confirmed their release in a post on his Instagram story on January 14, revealing that the matter had been adjourned until March 5, 2026.
The arrest of Sammy West and Ann had earlier generated widespread reactions on social media after a viral video surfaced showing the moment security operatives took them from their residence.
The development triggered heated debates online, with many Nigerians questioning the circumstances surrounding their detention and the alleged involvement of Senator Nwoko in the matter.
Recounting his experience, Sammy West expressed anger and frustration over what he described as unequal and humiliating treatment during their arrest and transfer to Abuja.
According to him, while he was handcuffed and transported by road for 12 hours, Ann was allegedly flown to Abuja in a private jet.
“Wetin man do man! Put me for 12 hours journey on handcuff and Ann dem use private jet transport am,” he said.
He added that similar tactics were used during both arrests, which he claimed were designed to intimidate and suppress them.
Sammy West further alleged that they were denied access to their families and legal representatives, and that details of the court proceedings were deliberately kept from them until the last moment.
“Similar techniques. Not letting the legal representative or family aware of the whereabouts. Not allowing anyone to know the court, the final stage of prison. Case adjourned until March 5th,” he wrote.
He described the experience as troubling and raised concerns about transparency and fairness within the legal process.
Hours after his initial post, the singer confirmed that Ann had regained her freedom as well.
“My T.E.D. Ann is out,” he wrote.
