"So, here I am with MISS GREENLAND, Naja Rie Sorensen at the Fiesta Americana Condessa in Cancún, Mexico during the Miss Universe Pageant in 1989. Such a gem! We bonded just fine and she told me such amazing facts about Greenland. So you see, e don tay wey Greenland became a 'Country of Particular Interest' ( emphasis on 'interest', before some street professors begin dey hala).
"As Miss Universe Nigeria, representing my Country at that premier pageant, a glamorous extravaganza which had almost 80 contestants from all over the world, we were all camped at the lovely resort city of Cancun for a full month for endless rehearsals, showstopping dance productions, cultural exchanges, charity stops, tourism engagements and much more before the finale.
"Interestingly, I got to learn from Miss Greenland that there were No traffic lights in existence in the entire country of Greenland then, No roads connecting it's towns, You cannot drive from one village to another because of it's rugged fjords and the ice sheet. Instead, people rely on dogsleds, boats, planes, and helicopters. Also, that Greenland has very few trees, and produces a lot of gigantic icebergs, so much so that it is believed that the iceberg that sank the Titanic originated from there.
"Nothing much has changed in 2026....this peace loving country now has about 3 to 4 traffic lights in the entire country, all located within the capital city of Nuuk.
"Back to the Miss Universe Pageant...Something else many people don't know is that Donald Trump ( Now President Trump) was heavily affiliated with, and infact, owned the Miss Universe Organization—which produces Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA—from 1996 to 2015.
"Trump bought the Miss Universe pageant in 1996 from ITT Corp and entered a joint venture in 2002 with NBC, giving the network 51% ownership, then bought out that stake before selling the entire organization in 2015.
"He was heavily involved in the pageants, often making decisions about production and marketing to boost viewership.
"Life is intriguing and always comes full circle. An old Chinese proverb says, ' May we continue to live in interesting times'🤩😅😍!"
