An Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) operated by the Nigerian Army was reportedly destroyed after hitting an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Keta–Danjibga road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, according to local sources.
The development was disclosed by a security analyst, Bakatsine in a post shared on Saturday.
According to the post, the incident reportedly occurred on Friday evening while troops were escorting civilian vehicles along the high-risk route in Tsafe Local Government Area.
According to the sources, the explosion engulfed the military vehicle in flames shortly after detonation.
Local sources claimed that suspected bandits were seen celebrating after the blast and allegedly took responsibility for the attack after observing the destruction of the vehicle.
The number of casualties resulting from the explosion could not be independently verified as of press time.
The post reads, “yesterday evening, a Nigerian Army Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was destroyed after striking an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Keta–Danjibga road in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State, according to local sources.
“Troops were reportedly escorting civilian vehicles along the high-risk route when the explosion occurred.
“Local sources said bandits were seen celebrating after the blast, claiming responsibility after seeing the military vehicle was set ablaze.
“The number of casualties remains unclear at this time.”
