A Nigerian man has stirred laughter and conversation online after sharing a humorous encounter he once had with a pastor. The story, posted on X by @Iamsamdan, quickly caught attention for its honesty and comic twist.

According to him, the incident happened during a prayer session where the pastor was ministering and laying hands on him.

As is common in some services, the expectation was that he would “fall under the anointing.” However, despite the pastor’s repeated prayers and gentle (and not-so-gentle) nudges to his head, he remained firmly on his feet.

He recounted that the pastor seemed increasingly determined to see him fall, subtly applying more pressure as the moment stretched on. Meanwhile, he stood there, unmoved, unsure of how to react. What began as a simple prayer session soon turned into an awkward standoff.

After a while, he said he started to feel sorry for the pastor. In his view, not falling might make it appear as though the pastor lacked spiritual power, potentially leading to embarrassment in front of the congregation. Wanting to ease the tension and save the situation, he made a quick decision.

Out of pity, he chose to “cooperate.”

He dramatically fell to the ground, playing along as though he had finally been overcome by the anointing. The moment, he implied, brought relief to the pastor and restored the flow of the service.

The lighthearted confession has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many finding it relatable and funny, while others debated the authenticity of such experiences in religious gatherings. Regardless, his story stands out as a candid and entertaining glimpse into a situation many have either witnessed—or quietly wondered about.

He wrote: So, back in 2017, just after my NYSC, I was traveling to Lagos from Abuja to see my family. As some of you may already be able to tell, the journey was really a long one. Omo, that route is one my most dreaded ones because of the distance.

We started out from Abuja very early in the morning (I think around 7 am) but spent the entire day and night on the road. In fact, it turned out that by 1 am the following day, we were still on the road, mainly because the bus kept breaking down nearly every 1 hour.

Naturally, I was very tired. Everyone on the bus was tired. But, I was in touch with my family throughout the journey.

Eventually we got to Ibadan by 2 am. I called my dad to inform him that I was now in Ibadan. This was something I always did; I usually informed my family whenever I got to a new city as we journeyed onward.

When my father learned I had reached Ibadan, he told me not to continue the journey to Lagos anymore since it was 2 am already. Instead, he asked me to get off the bus and go meet a friend of his, Anthony, who happened to live in Ibadan at the time. The plan was for me to spend the night at Anthony's house then continue on my way to Lagos by daybreak. This sounded good to me because I was already tired of the bus I was in.

My father called Anthony and then sent me the man's number. Shortly after, Anthony himself called me and directed me on how to meet him.

We eventually met and this was where the problems began.

See, I was expecting to be taken straight to Anthony's house so I could get the sleep I was deeply longing for, because I was really tired. My tiredness sef don tire at that point. But, instead of taking me to his house, Anthony, who was quite big, like Cubana Chief Priest, told me he was at a night vigil and therefore, I would have to  follow him to church to take part in the vigil. Bro, didn't you hear that I've been on the road all day? I can't freaking go to a night vigil!!!

Anyway, I had no choice but follow the man. Anthony took me straight to his church and asked me to sit anywhere I liked and take part in the prayers. Omo, wetin concern me, I just found a corner of the church, sat down then promptly slept off. Make dem just pray for me abeg.😒

By the time I woke up, it was almost 6 am and these people were still praying. I couldn't believe it. How long were they going to keep praying? Ah, Pele o. Prayer warriors!

Anyway, I began to get myself ready to continue my journey. It was already daybreak, by the way. Eventually the church rounded off the prayers. This was about .

It was around this time that Anthony came to find me where I was sitting. He asked me to come with him immediately, with a note of urgency in his voice. I wondered what this urgency was for. I followed him anyway. Anthony took me outside the church and informed me that he spoke with the pastor about me and that the pastor wanted to pray for me.

Ah, pray for me? Okay o. Well, who am I to not want a man of God's prayer?

The pastor soon came out of the church and walked right to where I was standing with Anthony. Immediately, about three ushers rushed to where I was and promptly stood behind me. I remember that one of them strangely looked Iike Don Jazzy. I wondered if Michael Collins had a brother that was a church usher.

Anyway, I instantly understood what was going on. The pastor was going to pray for me and I was expected to fall down. When this "falling under the anointing" happens, the ushers behind me would then catch me.

Without saying too much, the pastor launched into the prayer and placed a hand on my head. At first the prayer started slowly, then the pastor eventually 'entered gear 2' and his once rose higher. At this point, his hand was beginning to move against my head a bit more roughly almost like he wanted to push me backwards.

Before I knew what was happening, the pastor pushed me really hard and said "Receive it!" The push was really hard but it was not hard enough to knock me off my feet so I remained standing. This seemed to startle the pastor a little because he paused for a moment before continuing the prayer. I opened my eyes a for a bit and saw a look of near disgust on his face. I didn't really understand what that look was for, though.

Anyway, he continued his prayer again and this time, he pushed me even harder. I remained standing still. He pushed again but I kept standing. At this point, the pastor handed his Bible to Anthony who was standing beside him then proceeded to place both his hands on my head.

This time, the prayer was louder than ever. He was casting and binding every spirit of stubbornness from me. I was surprised what he meant by 'stubbornness'. I had never been known to be stubborn.

Anyway, he pushed me this time with both hands and the force was really strong but not strong enough to knock me flat on the ground. I wondered why he kept pushing me like that.

After a while, he pushed me very hard again shouting "receive it!" This time, he pushed me so hard that it actually forced my feet to move back a few steps. I noticed that the ushers behind held on to me and tried to drag me to the ground, but I resisted. I wondered what they were doing. Minister of Defence sef no do pass like that.

This was when it all dawned on me. The pastor wanted me to fall down. Because by falling down, it would mean his prayer had worked. If I didn't fall down, it would mean he didn't have any power and this would be deeply embarrassing for him.

I opened my eyes and looked at the pastor. The look of disgust was still there on his face. He looked like he wanted me to fall immediately so the prayer could be over and he would be free to go home after that long night vigil.

I smiled. I knew the pastor desperately wanted me to fall. I felt some pity for the man so, I decided I was ready to give him what he wanted.

I waited till he touched me again. The moment his hand touched my head when the prayer began again, I pretended to convulse like the people I usually saw in a few viral deliverance videos I had seen before. After convulsing for a few seconds, I let myself fall backwards while the ushers behind me grabbed me and gently let my back touch the ground.

While doing all these, I struggled hard to keep myself from laughing out. What surprised me was when I heard the pastor say "I have just felt virtue leave my body. He is free. He has been saved"

Saved keh. Bro, nothing do me o, I just fell down to save you from embarrassment ni.

Anyway. Few minutes later, I stood up from the ground and shook hands with the pastor and Anthony who congratulated me for my successful deliverance. I wondered what I had been delivered from.

I continued my journey to Lagos shortly after. But that memory still remains with me to this day.
