The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed all examinations slated for Monday and Tuesday due to rising tension in the city after a deadly attack in the Anguwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State.

The institution’s management also urged students and staff to remain indoors and stay vigilant as security concerns persist in the area.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations of the university, Emmanuel Madugu, said the decision was taken due to the tension created by the incident, which occurred in a community where many staff members and students reside.

Madugu explained that the Vice-Chancellor approved the postponement of the examinations to ensure the safety of members of the university community.

“In view of the fatal attacks by unknown gunmen on residents of Anguwan Rukuba, an area that accommodates many staff and students of the university and the tension it has generated, the Vice-Chancellor has directed that all examinations scheduled for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, be postponed and rescheduled,”
the statement said.

The university further advised students and staff to exercise caution in their movements within and outside the campus.

“For emphasis, members are strongly advised to avoid coming out very early in the morning and to report any sign of security breach to the University Security Division,”
Madugu added.

Management of the institution noted that it was working closely with relevant security agencies, while monitoring the situation and assured that further updates will be communicated when necessary.
