
In an attack on Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State, suspected bandits killed eleven persons and wounded two more.
According to a statement released yesterday by DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the state police public relations officer, armed attackers entered the village last Sunday at around 2:40 p.m. and started shooting at locals.
According to the statement, extra tactical teams have been sent to the affected community by state Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage in an effort to stop the fleeing thugs from attacking again.
Additionally, it stated that the state commissioner of police was in charge of stepping up intelligence-led patrols and working more closely with other security services and community members.
The statement urged the public to maintain composure and offer helpful information to support current investigations in order to apprehend and convict the alleged bandits.
"The Katsina State Police Command regrets to notify the public of a bandit attack on Gurbi Village, Kankara LGA, Katsina State, which occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. on April 26, 2026," the statement stated.
Before security personnel arrived, suspected bandits attacked the area, shooting 11 people to death and injuring two more to varied degrees.
"After receiving the distress call, a combined security force made up of the military, police, and other sister security agencies, led by the DPO, promptly mobilised to the scene. The assailants fled on sighting the advancing security forces.”
The statement stated that the injured people were sent to a neighboring hospital for medical care, but it also noted that the community has since returned to normal.
According to Islamic customs, the deceased's bodies have been returned to their families for burial.
