Four people have been confirmed dead after a Golf Wagon vehicle plunged into Tomas Dam in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday evening.

The Kano State Fire Service disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at around 7:10pm when the Danbatta Fire Service Division received a distress call from a resident.

The vehicle, which had an unknown registration number, was travelling from Kano to Roni in Jigawa State when it crashed into the dam.

A total of 10 persons were involved in the accident.

Firefighters from the Danbatta Fire Station responded promptly and successfully pulled all victims from the water.

Four of them were rescued unconscious but were later confirmed dead.

Two of the deceased were identified as Shamsiya Miko, aged about 35, and Fatima Danlami, aged about 40, while the identities of the remaining two had not been confirmed at the time of the report.

All victims were evacuated to Danbatta General Hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary investigations indicated that a burst tyre caused the accident.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged motorists to drive carefully and responsibly, particularly on highways and near waterways.

He also called on relevant authorities to urgently repair the Tomas Dam embankment to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

In a separate incident on Monday, two people lost their lives in a road crash involving a trailer and a Toyota Corolla at Kwang community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, with five persons involved in total.
