The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigerians to redouble their prayers for the country as it approaches the 2027 general elections, stressing that what Nigeria needs most at this critical time are leaders of integrity, vision, and genuine reverence for God.

The revered monarch made the appeal in his Eid-el-Kabir message on Thursday, using the occasion to emphasize the role of spiritual reflection, national unity, and patriotism in steering Nigeria toward lasting peace and prosperity.

Speaking in his capacity as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the Sultan urged citizens to consistently seek divine guidance in the selection of credible leaders capable of tackling the country's pressing challenges, including insecurity and economic hardship.

He made clear that Nigeria's path forward goes beyond political campaigns and electoral processes, arguing that true progress hinges on justice, sincerity, competence, and a genuine commitment to serving the public good rather than personal interests.

Drawing on the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir, the Sultan encouraged Nigerians to embody the values the celebration represents sacrifice, tolerance, obedience, and compassion describing these virtues as foundational to peaceful coexistence and national development.

He offered prayers for enduring peace, unity, and improved living conditions across the country, expressing hope that future festivities would be marked by greater security and economic stability.

The Sultan also acknowledged the efforts of Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu in enhancing security and improving the welfare of residents, with particular appreciation for the support extended to pilgrims embarking on the 2026 Hajj to Saudi Arabia.

He prayed for the safe return of all Nigerian pilgrims and called on leaders at every level of government to place national interest and citizens' wellbeing above all else as the country heads into another election cycle.
