The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, was sh%t by suspected g¥nmen on Wednesday night in Osogbo, triggering widespread panic among residents in the area.
The att@ck took place at approximately 9:50 p.m. near the MDS area of the state capital, as g¥nshots rang out through the neighbourhood.
According to eyewitnesses, the assa+lants had trailed a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and other occupants before opening fire on the vehicle in what appeared to be a carefully planned and targeted att@ck.
The occupants of the vehicle managed to escape and sought safety at the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters before the att@ckers fled the scene.
Ajibola sustained inj¥ries in the incident and was subsequently transported to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, swiftly condemned the att@ck and called for a thorough investigation to ensure that those behind it are held accountable.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed on Thursday that it has launched a full investigation into the sh%%ting.
Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi disclosed that officers responded promptly to a distress call, evacuated the victim for medical treatment, and deployed tactical teams to track down the suspects.
He added that evidence recovered from the scene is currently being subjected to forensic analysis, and that Ajibola is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident and directed officers to identify, arrest, and prosecute all individuals found to be responsible for the att@ck.
