A well-known 57-man gang that was terrorizing Yola, the state capital, and local governments has been apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command.
In a statement released on Tuesday, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command's spokesperson, said the arrest was a part of the command's ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminals.
"As part of the command's ongoing efforts to improve public safety and rid communities of criminal elements, a coordinated operation was carried out in identified criminal hideouts and black spots within Jimeta and Yola Metropolises," he stated.
The operation, which was conducted by Divisional Police Officers under the direction of their Area Commanders, "produced positive results with the arrest of fifty-seven (57) suspects for offenses bordering on Shilla-related activities, public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons, and involvement with prohibited substances," according to the statement.
Under the direction of CP Kabir Hassan, the Adamawa State Police Command has continued to actively combat drug misuse, public nuisance, Shilla gangsterism, and other types of criminal activity throughout the state.
Police officers collected a variety of firearms and suspected illegal substances from the suspects during the operation. The exhibits will be presented as evidence in court during the prosecution since they have been documented.
The statement revealed that the suspects have been charged in court in compliance with the law, emphasizing that additional investigations and profiling are still ongoing to ascertain the degree of their involvement in other illegal acts.
The CP assures locals that the Command is unwavering in its resolve to eliminate criminal gangs and bring about long-lasting peace throughout the state while praising the professionalism and dedication shown by the officers involved in the operation.
In order to help with crime prevention and detection, the command also requested the people to maintain vigilance and to continue providing the police with reliable and timely information.
