After competing for Nigeria in the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup in Shanghai, China, Chinedu Great Okediachi, the Gold Award winner for Team Nigeria, has returned to Delta State.
The Nigeria Spelling Bee made the announcement in a post on its official social media page, which featured the student arriving at the Asaba International Airport and being greeted by friends, family, fans, and well-wishers.
Okediachi was one of the members of Team Nigeria that won the Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category during the worldwide tournament, according to the organizers.
The Spelling Bee World Cup is an international academic competition that brings together students from different countries to compete in spelling, vocabulary and language proficiency after qualifying through national spelling contests.
Sharing videos from the reception, the Nigeria Spelling Bee described the homecoming as a recognition of the student's efforts and the team's performance in China, noting that Chinedu was part of the historic Team Nigeria squad that won the Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category, bringing honour and pride to the country on the global stage.
The organisation congratulated the student on his achievement, welcoming him back home and describing his success as a continued inspiration to young Nigerians in the pursuit of educational excellence.
