Army Busts Illegal Bunkering Site, Arrests 6 Suspects in Lagos

Troops have dismantled a suspected illegal oil bunkering operation in Lagos, leading to multiple arrests and the recovery of equipment believed to have been used in the activity.

During an intelligence-led operation, soldiers from the Nigerian Army's 65 Battalion demolished a possible illegal bunkering facility in Lagos State's Orile General Area and arrested six suspected oil bunkers.

Under the command of Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, the operation was carried out in response to reliable information regarding possible illicit oil bunkering operations in the region.

Six suspects have been arrested by troops of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army over alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering activities in Lagos State.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the troops raided the location and apprehended six suspects allegedly involved in the illicit operation.

The military, during the operation, also recovered four trucks, one pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for illegal bunkering activities.

The army disclosed that the suspects and all recovered items have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, urged them to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the division's Area of Responsibility.
