Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, has been accused by Festus Keyamo, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, of purposefully falsifying an account of an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Speaking during an appearance on a television programme's Politics Today segment on Thursday, the minister took aim at Obi over his version of events, accusing him of habitual dishonesty and saying he lies frequently and without justification.

Keyamo's comments were in response to claims by Obi that he had been harassed at the airport on account of his political leanings.

The minister rejected this account, insisting it was inappropriate for a presidential candidate from the opposition to level such an accusation without first giving room for the matter to be independently verified.

He noted that he had previously given Obi a seven-day deadline to pay a fine and issue an apology to airport staff at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, whom he said had been unfairly cast as oppressors in Obi's narrative.

Keyamo insisted that the airport episode had been distorted and pushed back against Obi's version of what actually happened.
