Police Arrest Six Over Unauthorised Medical Outreach In Kano

The Kano State Police Command has cautioned individuals and organisations against conducting unsanctioned medical outreaches or dispensing pharmaceutical drugs and locally manufactured remedies without clearance from competent authorities, following the detention of suspects engaged in unauthorised medical distribution activities.

Police operatives from a mobile force unit stationed in Challawa intercepted six individuals affiliated with a charitable foundation at a church premises behind the police base on Monday.

The suspects, led by a 50-year-old individual from Nasarawa State, were allegedly administering unverified and unauthorised locally formulated medicines to a substantial gathering of residents from a local community.

The medicines were being distributed at no cost as well as offered for commercial sale without authorisation from the state health ministry, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, or other relevant regulatory health bodies.

The police noted that the unauthorised medical activity had previously generated public complaints and resident concerns prior to law enforcement intervention.

The individual who granted the suspects access to the church premises has been summoned to assist investigators in examining circumstances surrounding the unsanctioned medical exercise.

The matter was initially documented at a local police division before transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where the detainees remain undergoing further questioning.

The police command has issued a comprehensive warning that individuals and organisations must refrain from administering pharmaceuticals, locally manufactured remedies, or organising medical outreaches absent proper authorisation and verification from relevant authorities.

Such activities present substantial health and security hazards to the populace, particularly when large gatherings are involved.

The command reinforced its commitment to resident protection and public order preservation throughout the state, declaring that it will not tolerate actions capable of jeopardising public health or public order.

Members of the public have been urged to report any suspicious medical distributions or unverified medicine dispensing to the nearest police installation.
