The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy 300 National Youth Service Corps members to compressed natural gas conversion facilities nationwide following specialised training and certification as CNG technicians.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives disclosed the initiative during the launch of a CNG Retrofitting Training Programme at the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp in Abuja.

The training programme will be executed across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones and forms part of broader efforts to position young people centrally within the nation's transition toward compressed natural gas utilisation.

Following the elimination of fuel subsidies, CNG has emerged as the most economically accessible and sustainable energy option for Nigerian motorists.

The government has established an annual target of retrofitting 100,000 vehicles, with the National Automotive and Development Council providing technical certification oversight and complete financial backing.

The Minister of Youth Development characterised the CNG training initiative as generating expanded employment and entrepreneurial possibilities for corps members extending beyond their mandatory service duration.

He urged participants to capitalise on the training opportunity whilst advising them to embrace affordable, sustainable energy solutions and leverage newly acquired technical competencies alongside their formal qualifications.

The NYSC Director-General emphasised the initiative as exemplifying inter-agency cooperation in support of the government's Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted the scheme's readiness to facilitate Nigeria's energy transition, recalling that NYSC has equipped over three million corps members with diverse vocational capabilities since 2012.

He characterised the CNG programme as bridging academic learning and practical application whilst contributing to a one-trillion-dollar innovation-driven economy powered by youth ingenuity and enterprise.
