Nigeria's electoral commission has set Saturday, September 19, 2026, for a by-election in Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye constituency following the death of the lawmaker who represented the area.
The by-election will follow the country's constitution and electoral laws.
The commission says it will make sure everything is fair and open across the constituency's 903 polling stations and three Local Government Areas.
Here's the timeline for the election process.
The commission will announce the election on Thursday, August 20.
Political parties wanting to put forward candidates have until August 25 to hold their selection processes, with the final list of candidates coming out on September 8.
Campaigning starts September 9 and wraps up on September 17.
The commission is calling on all political parties to stick to this schedule and follow the law in everything they do.
It's promising stakeholders that it's ready to run the process, maintain fairness and give voters a genuine choice.
