Police Nab 2 Suspects in Plot to Smuggle Stolen Lexus Abroad

Police in Oyo State have arrested two men accused of tr@fficking stolen expensive vehicles out of Nigeria for sale abroad.

Adewale Abiola and Kabiru Abobarin were caught by the Violent Crime Response Unit after officers spotted a stolen Lexus SUV early Wednesday morning.

When police tried to stop the vehicle for questioning, the occupants abandoned it and ran into the bush.

Officers chased them down and arrested both men.

One of them was shot in the foot during the operation.

Officers recovered valuables from the vehicle including four laptops, an iPhone 15 Pro Max, seven wristwatches and jewellery that belonged to the owner.

Under questioning, the suspects admitted they received the stolen car from a theft gang in Ilorin.

They said they were driving it toward the border to get ECOWAS documents, which would have allowed them to cross into another country and sell it.
