Fake Doctor and Armed Robbery Gang Busted in Niger State

Niger State police arrested a 35-year-old man accused of posing as a doctor and giving injections and medicines to people in Kontagora without medical training.

Aminu Yusuf of Unguwan-Tukura claimed to be a physician and charged residents N30,000 each for treatment he administered.

Police picked him up on August 24 following a tip-off.

Investigators confirmed he has no medical background or qualifications.

He is being held for prosecution.

In a separate operation, police arrested five men suspected of running an @rmed r@bbery gang operating around Minna.

Officers recovered a Beretta pistol and two live rounds of ammunition from the group.

The arrests came after armed men invaded homes in Sauka-Kahuta in the early hours of August 11 and stole laptops, mobile phones, motorcycles and other items.

Police detectives traced the gang and arrested the suspected leader, 25-year-old Isiya Auwal, on August 17 at the U.K. Bello Theatre Centre.

Auwal led investigators to three other gang members: Muhammad Tanko, 27; Francis Yusuf, 35; and Amir Musa, 28.

The three were arrested at different locations in Minna and Nasarawa State.

The suspects admitted to robberies in the Mandela, Sauka-Kahuta, Barkin-Sale, Farm Centre and Highpoint areas of Minna.

Police said the gang identified 50-year-old Ismaila Abdullahi of Maitumbi as the person who kept their firearm.

Abdullahi was arrested on August 19, leading to recovery of the Beretta pistol and ammunition.

Investigations showed the gang sold stolen items to a receiver known as Ahmed, aka Genuine, of Maitumbi.

The five suspects remain under investigation while police search for the alleged receiver.
