Education unions in Nigeria have blocked students from returning to Federal Unity Colleges nationwide until the government cancels its plan to concession King's College, Lagos.

The unions made the announcement on Thursday, saying no students will resume until the issue is settled.

The ban covers all Federal Government Colleges, Federal Government Boys Colleges, Federal Government Girls Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges across the country.

The unions are firmly opposed to the sale or concession of King's College or any other Federal Unity College in Nigeria.

They said they've been trying to meet with the Minister of Education for the past month to discuss their concerns, but those requests were ignored, forcing them to take this action.

The unions appealed to parents, guardians, school management committees, Parent-Teacher Associations and community leaders to support their position against the concession.

They also called on other organisations like university worker unions, the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Nigerian Union of Journalists to join their campaign against the plan.

The unions said the planned concession or sale of King's College had to be reversed before students could return to school.
