Akure School Turns 50 as Alumni Plan Major Revival Project

Alumni of Omoluorogbo Grammar School in Akure have launched plans to revive the 50-year-old institution through a legacy project aimed at upgrading its infrastructure and strengthening its academic environment.

The initiative is timed with the school's Golden Jubilee celebration scheduled for October 29 to 31, which will bring together former and current students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders from Nigeria and abroad.

The committee chairman said the school has continued producing successful graduates across various professions despite facing infrastructural challenges and limited investment in its physical facilities over the decades.

The anniversary provides a chance to address some of these challenges and plan for the institution's future.

Many of the structures currently in use date back to the school's early years after it emerged from Messiah Modern School in 1976.

The Golden Jubilee will give alumni and stakeholders an opportunity to identify practical ways to strengthen the school's infrastructure and overall capacity.

The three-day celebration kicks off on October 29 with a thanksgiving service, followed by activities highlighting the school's history and key personalities from the past five decades.

Day two features an alumni reunion, career development and mentorship sessions plus sporting activities to reconnect former students and expose current ones to accomplished alumni.

The event culminates on October 31 with a grand finale and the official launch of the OGSA Legacy Project, which will channel alumni support toward the school's continued development.

The chairman stressed that the anniversary should produce tangible benefits for present and future students rather than serve as just a ceremonial gathering.
