Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Industries, has said he no longer wants to be called Africa's richest man but rather its wealthiest man so he can create wealth for others.

Dangote made the statement while launching the Initial Public Offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals at the Nigerian Exchange in Lagos.

He said the IPO gives investors a chance to be part of a transformational moment for Nigeria and Africa's economies, not just to buy shares.

The billionaire called on Nigerians to strengthen the capital market and spread wealth ownership widely.

He said together they should deepen the market, build prosperity through ownership, and ensure prosperity for Africa.

Dangote also reflected on the personal cost of his success, acknowledging the time he spent away from his family while building his business empire.

He thanked his three daughters Mariya, Halima and Fatima for their support and understanding, saying he had missed many years of family time.

The IPO opened on Monday offering 4.1 billion new ordinary shares at 525 naira per share, with a minimum purchase of 10 shares for 5,250 naira.

The offer closes on October 13, subject to terms in the prospectus.

The launch marked a historic moment the first time a refinery has been publicly offered on the Nigerian stock market in its 66-year history.
