Suspected vandals on Thursday abducted two photojournalists who were at the scene of a pipeline explosion in Arepo, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, smashing their cameras and brutalizing them

Thursday, 23rd of July was a day to forget for two photojournalists representing The Sun and The Nation newspapers who were at the scene of a pipeline explosion in Arepo, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State to take pictures.

According to The Punch, they were attacked by suspected angry vandals who were in hot search for their missing colleagues. It would be recalled that 5 of their cohorts were burnt to death in the fire mishap that recently engulfed the Arepo pipeline.

The suspected vandals reportedly came in speedboats. They nabbed the photojournalists and took them to the creeks where they were brutally dealt with and their cameras smashed to prevent them from retrieving the pictures of the scene. They were later released in the afternoon of the same day.

A source close to one of the victims named Solomon said:

“He (Victim) was beaten up at the scene of the explosion by the vandals. They did not let him take away the photographs he had taken. They beat him up and he is in the hospital. He could not come to the office.”

Another source working around Arepo said the suspected vandals are still hanging around searching for their missing colleagues. They are currently treating no fewer than 20 of their injured friends in the creeks according to the source.
