According a media aide of President Buhari, there are indications that the arms deals carried out during the immediate past administration may be investigated
Speaking to Channels Television, Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has hinted that President Buhari will investigate the contracts awarded for the purchase of arms during Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.
According to Shehu, “The President is interested in every penny that leaves the Nigeria’s treasury. As you are aware, records are being checked right now, not only in the oil sector, but also in the various departments of government.
“So, Mr. President is really interested in what has happened to the equipment that have supposedly been bought and supplied, some of which might be there on the ground or might not be,” Shehu said.
Adding that “Only a thorough audit will actually reveal this. The disclosure has been made about substandard (equipment) in the Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram.”
You will recall that the former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh said that the military was ill equipped during his time.
