United States Did Not Give Buhari Any Oil Thieves' List - New Report States

 

Contrary to the popular media reports that the United States of America handed a list of oil thieves to President Muhammadu Buhari during his last visit to Washington in July, 2015, the Punch have strongly stated that the claim is false.

 

According the the findings of the Punch correspondent, Buhari was handed no such list.

 

Sources at the US embassy who spoke under the condition of anonymity releaved there was no exhange of such document between the American officials and President Buhari.

 

The source said, “Though President Buhari engaged in discussions on various issues with the US President Barack Obama, there was no exchange of documents between them.”

 

The U.S embassy in Abuja refused to address the lingering issue. The Press Attaché, Sean McIntosh, said he had no comment on the issue. There had been media reports that the US government had given Buhari two separate lists containing the names of corrupt Nigerians and crude oil thieves, adding that the President was taken aback when he saw the list.

 

The rumours were also debunked by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina who stated he heard of no such document been given during the president's visit to the United States.
