Punch reports that the former Governor Godswill Akpabio was scheduled to appear before the agency.
Godswill Akpabio
Reports have been circulating on how former governor, now Senator, Godswill Akpabio and some members of the PDP in the Senate released a statement distancing themselves from the Probe of the EFCC helmsman-Ibrahim Lamorde.
Punch Newspapers say Akpabio’s move has destabilised the anti-graft agency, adding that the EFCC is not sure whether to go ahead with their plan to investigate the former Governor.
Punch also states that the former Governor, was scheduled to appear before the agency, based on a petition sent to it, by Leo Ekpenyong, a lawyer and indigene of Akwa Ibom State.
A top EFCC source who spoke to Punch said “We have seen what the former governor has done and we are aware that we have invited him to answer some questions relating to his tenure but we will see how the whole thing (probe of the former governor) will go.”
