Police have ordered joints for social gatherings alongside clubs to close early.
The Ogun state police command has given proprietors of public joints like bars and clubs across the state to henceforth close shops for business by 10:00pm daily.
The police stated that anybody found disregarding the order risk being arrested for breaching the security laws in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday September 1, and signed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Ogun state commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, gave the directive in order not to jeopardise the peaceful security arrangement being enjoyed across the state.
The PPRO further explained that the decision became necessary in view of the police investigation which has proven that patrons of liquor centres tend to have lost sense of decency and are prone to committing security breaches after 10:00 pm as they are likely to be influenced by ‘an overdose’ of alcohol.
Adejobi, who stated that the command would treat any proprietor of joints and liquor centres caught violating the order as aiding and abetting criminals in the state, also added that club houses across the state would have the grace of closing by 12:00 pm.
