Israel Offers to Support Nigeria in Fight Against Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari's drive to rid Boko Haram insurgents before end of the year has received a global boost, as the Israeli government has promised to provide support and assistance in achieving the deadline set by the government.

 
A statement from Mr. Turaki Hassan who is the special adviser on media and public affairs to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has revealed Israel has pledged to offer assistance and support to Nigeria in wiping out the Boko Haram terrorist group before the end of this year.
 
This was disclosed by the the Speaker of Israeli parliament, Knesset Mr. Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, during a meeting with Yakubu Dogara on the sildelines of the ongoing Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in New York.
 
This will come as a boost to President Muhammadu Buhari who is committed to ending the reign of the sect before the end of the year. Dogara had solicited for Israal`s support to Nigeria to help end Boko Haram and other security challenges, in addition to attracting investments in agriculture, solid minerals, energy and tourism.

Dogara also called for the establishment of Nigeria-Isreal parliamentary friendship group to help deepen bilateral relations between the two countries. Mr. Edelstein reveals Israel support for Nigeria against insurgency as a measure of global action against terrorism.
 
“We must unite to fight terrorism and not to divide them into ‘their terrorist’ and ‘our terrorists’. Israel is committed to fight againt terrorism because terrorists use divisions between nations and even democratic countries,” Edelstein said.

Dogara had told Mr. Edelstein that the international community must find a global solution to terrorism as no nation is insulated from its scourge. He said Nigeria’s Northeast region where he comes from has been under Boko Haram occupation and the scale of devastation was unimaginable.
