A mother has shocked many people by giving birth to a baby twice the size of an average newborn all by herself.

A mother has given birth to a baby weighing 13lbs 14oz, almost twice that of most newborns

A Russian mum is recovering in hospital after giving to a baby who weighed over six kilos - without any painkillers, Dailymail has reported.

The 42-year-old mother of four delivered the super-sized tot without any medical help in Dagestankiye Ogni, a small town in south-western Russia. The youngster tipped the scales at a whopping 6.3kg (13lb 140z) - twice the weight of an average baby.

A spokesman for the local hospital said: "Of course this is overweight, this is pathology.

"According to the medical team, the baby has problems with hearing. Other problems may occur in the future."
