A third boxer has died a tragic death in just weeks after suffering brain haemorrhage while fighting in the ring.

Boxer Yeison Cohen has died

A boxer has died after suffering a brain haemorrhage during a bout – marking the third time a ring fighter has died in just weeks, Daily Star UK reports.

Venezuelan fighter Yeison Cohen, 28, was rushed to intensive care earlier this month after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

He had fallen to the ground shortly after his trainer refused to let him enter the ring for the eighth round.

The World Boxing Association announced he died last weekend after the bout in Barranquilla, Colombia.

A hospital spokesperson told reporters: "(Cohen) was in the intensive care unit with a critical diagnosis due to a severe brain inflammation and bruising on the left side of his brain.

"The patient never had a neurological recovery and always remained in a coma with difficulties."

It comes after a series of deaths have rocked boxing in recent weeks.

It was announced at the weekend that Canadian boxer, David Whittom, 39, had died after he was placed into a coma following a fight.

The tragedy came after British boxer, Scott Westgarth, 31, died shortly after a fight in Doncaster.

He won an eliminator bout against Dec Spelman but was rushed to hospital afterwards before he was pronounced dead.

Cohen, it has been revealed, had travelled to Colombia illegally before the fatal bout after he was hit in the head with a metal stick in a street brawl.

He was not been given the correct licences from the Mayor's office in Barranquilla for the fight against Hugo Berrio.

Cohen leaves behind two young children.
