A sweet baby remembered for his cheeky monkey smile was found hanging from iron bars of a king size bed dead after taking a nap with drunk dad.
Late baby Ryan
Nine-month old little Ryan Sharp lost his life while taking an afternoon nap with dad after hanging from the iron bars of a king size bed.
Investigation revealed that the dad, Mr. Sharp had earlier taken the baby boy out for lunch before heading back to the home of friends Lily Griffith and Ashley Jewell for a nap. Mr Sharp took Ryan upstairs and rocked him to sleep in his arm. He had drank two pints of beer and two jagerbombs before deciding to rock little Ryan to sleep in his arm upstairs.
According to an inquest report, baby Ryan fell asleep in his father's arms on the king size bed while Mr. Sharp slept coolly on the bed. He was startled by Lily's voice after she discovered Ryan hanging there off the bottom of the bed. Ashley dialed 999 and carried out CPR on Ryan before the ambulance arrived. The baby suffered heart attack and died in the hospital.
A post mortem report revealed that Ryan suffered positional asphyxiation and neck compression as a result of the entanglement in the bed frame. The Coroner, Dr. Elizabeth Earland said co-sleeping and consumption of alcohol were the two factors behind the baby's death, saying it can also be considered as an accident.
The post mortem said Ryan suffered positional asphyxiation with possible neck compression due to entanglement in a bed frame. He suffered asphyxiation and neck compression.
"In the circumstances I am satisfied on the balance of probabilities that Ryan's death was an accident. I hope lessons will be learned following the tragic affair so that it doesn't happen to anybody else." She said.
Ryan's parents Jay and mum, Jaeda Owens are recovering from the tragic event and will never forget their beautiful son who filled their hearts with love and joy.
