Two cyclists helped save a girl's life after hearing her cry trapped in the wreckage of a black Ford car with her dead father. The wrecked car had smashed into a tree in very foggy conditions and was found in a ditch near Uttoxeter, Staffsordshire.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “Officers found a black coloured Ford Fiesta that been involved in a collision with a tree. Sadly the driver, and 25-year-old man from the local area had sustained fatal injuries. A five-year-old girl, the man’s daughter, was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital for observations and treatment for what were described as minor injuries. Specially trained family liaison officers are working to support the family at this difficult time. Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen the black Fiesta before the collision. At this early stage of the investigation is it not known at what time the collision occurred.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the car appeared to have hit a tree in very foggy conditions. He said: “Unfortunately, it was immediately obvious that the man driving had passed away. A five-year-old girl was found in the back of the car. She was complaining of abdominal and back pain,” said the spokesman. After being fully assessed on the back of the ambulance, she was taken to hospital. This was an extremely difficult incident for all involved, including the two cyclists who made the discovery.”
The girl was still being treated at hospital today. The driver of the car has not yet been named.
