Atiku Abubakar has revealed why he parted ways with Bola Tinubu in 2007.
According to him, they went their different ways after the former Lagos governor allegedly demanded that he flies a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket by allowing him become his running mate.
Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, Atiku disclosed that though he formed Action Congress of Nigeria with Tinubu, the former Lagos state Governor who is now the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress switched his support for him to Umar Yar’Adua of the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Yar’Adua won the election, but died in office three years later in May 2010. The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party said;
“He insisted on running with me and I didn’t believe it was right to have a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“That was the point of my fundamental departure with him.”
Atiku further disclosed in the interview that while Tinubu also asked Muhammadu Buhari to fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2015, the President switched for a Muslim-Christian ticket after he (Atiku) spoke against it alongside others.
