A kidnap attempt that was made on an expatriate working at a Tomato company in Birniwa Local Government Area of Jigawa State has been foiled by the police.
The spokesman of the Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam disclosed this in a press statement issued to DAILY POST.
He said the Gunmen numbering about 20 riding motorcycles attacked Sonia Food Tomatoes company in Birniwa town in an attempt to kidnap the expatriate.
“8/8/2022 at about 0200hrs, some group of armed men numbering about twenty (20) on motorcycles attacked Sonia Food Tomatoes Company, located at Birniwa LGA, with intent to abduct white men attached to the company,” he said.
He explained that the kidnappers started shooting sporadically and exchanged gunfire with policemen on duty but the Police succeeded in foiling the attempt and the assailants escaped into a nearby bush.
He said a preliminary investigation revealed that nobody was kidnapped from the company and no injury to any staff or the operatives were recorded.
He said normalcy was restored in the area and a rigorous patrol was intensified to forestall further attacks.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP Aliyu Sale Tafida, however, commended the officers for the rapid response.
He also urged the public to always avail the Police of prompt information at the right time.
