Vincent Awonugba, a 23-year-old Nigerian man, has been arrested and remanded,
He was remanded at a correctional centre for allegedly stabbing his grandmother, Florence Olaoye, to death after an argument over food.
Awonugba was remanded by an Akure Magistrate Court after he appeared in court without any legal representation.
He was said to have committed the offence on August 6 at his late grandmother’s residence at Labata Orimolade, Ondo town.
Awonugba was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder.
Police prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, told the court that the defendant stabbed the victim in the neck during an argument on his rate of food consumption including his suspicious movements.
Abdulateef said the offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant, whose plea was not taken, said he was accused of killing his grandmother because they were always at loggerheads.
Presiding Magistrate, Tope Aladejana, remanded the defendant at Olokuta correctional centre pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).
He adjourned the case till September 27.
