Man, Two Sisters Drown In Jigawa

A man and two sisters have died in a devastating way in Jigawa State - by drowning.

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command, on Saturday, said one Magaji Sani, aged 25 of Sabon Garin Takanebu, Miga Local Government Area got drowned in surface water in Gujungu town area of the state.

The command’s Spokesman, Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the incident in a statement, disclosed that Sani drowned while in the water with other swimmers during a downpour.

Shehu added that efforts by the victim’s co-swimmers to rescue him proved futile until local divers were invited to the scene by NSCDC personnel at Gujungu outpost to assist in the rescue operation.

He noted in the statement, “Sadly, after frantic efforts, his body was finally recovered from the water but certified dead. Thereafter, his body was released to his family members and buried in accordance with Islamic rites.”

In a similar vein, two sisters, Jamila Rabi’u, 14 and Rabi Rabi’u, 12 of Idan Zakara village, Dabuwaran Ward, Kaugama LGA were equally drowned on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at about 1730hrs.

Shehu stated that the young girls were on their way home from the farm but decided to clean-up their bodies from a local pond and got drowned.

He further stated that the sisters were certified dead at the Kaugama General Hospital and their corpses handed over to their parents for burial.
