5,000 PDP Members Defect To APC In Lagos

Posted by Thandiubani on Fri 28th Oct, 2022 - tori.ng

The defectors were members of the ‘Lagos for Lagos’ Movement and supporters of the governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor.

At least 5,000 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members have dumped the party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

TheNation reported that the defection took place yesterday.

The defectors were members of the ‘Lagos for Lagos’ Movement and supporters of the governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor.

Clad in orange T-shirts and fez caps to match, the defectors stormed the APC office on Acme Road, Ogba, Ikeja, with their brooms, singing and dancing.

They were received by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and party Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.

Dr. Hamzat said while it was possible for anyone to be misled, it was foolishness to continue in a wrong direction after discovering the right path.

Hamzat, who handed over the APC flags to the defectors, hailed them for retracing their footsteps to the party.

He said they would not regret their decision.

Hamzat said: “The state is moving in a right direction. This is the right decision. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has the eye of talents and ability to manage people.

“This is the time for us to vote for someone that knows the way. It is good you retraced yourselves. I must tell you that you have made the right decision.

“It is people that make towns, cities and countries great. I am excited that you have seen the reason to support Asiwaju.”

Ojelabi thanked the defectors for finding it necessary to be part of the progressives’ family.

He said the APC-led administration had prioritised the welfare of residents and had improved infrastructure.

“Thank you for finding it necessary to be part of the progressive family and process of developing Lagos State.

“You have taken a right decision by coming home to be part of the process. This is your party. You are not going to regret this step,” Ojelabi said.

The APC chairman urged the residents to use their votes to fast-track more progress and development by voting for APC candidates in the 2023 general election.

The leader of the defectors, Idowu Daramola, said the group moved back to the APC because Adediran disappointed them after moving to the PDP.

Other leaders of the defectors, Mr. Tunde Kazeem, the South Africa coordinator and Mr. Ahmed Mefeola, chairman, Jandor Legacy Forum, said they had expended huge money on Lagos4Lagos Movement before they retraced their steps to the party.
