Three gunmen said to be terrorizing Anambra State, have been neutralised by troops of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday.
The three gunmen met their waterloo during a gun duel at Umunze in the Orumba South local government area of the state.
Security sources told SaharaReporters that the gunmen wore charms around their bodies including legs, necks, waists and hands.
One of the sources disclosed that the three gunmen were among the criminal gang that ambushed a security patrol vehicle and killed five soldiers in Orumba recently.
"They were part of the criminal gang that has killed so many people and abducted many politicians in and around Orumba, Aguta, Umunze, Okoh and other places in the state.
"Today their charms failed them. We pray that their charms will continue to fail them in battle. We need peace. A lot of criminals (that) politicians used during elections in the past have acquired arms hiding under Biafra agitation to commit all kinds of atrocities."
Although the Nigeria Police Force, Anambra command has not officially confirmed the incident, some senior police officers have confirmed the incident.
A police officer said the operation involved a combined team of the police and military and that it was carried out around 4:30 pm on Wednesday
"They are not the only people who know how to acquire charms. We're not relenting since they don't want to rest. We will fish them out," he said.
The spokesman for the state police command, Ikenga Tochukwu, did not immediately respond to queries from SaharaReporters.
