Suspected kidnappers have abducted a businessman in Irawo, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State, in an attack that also left a 10-year-old girl with gunshot injuries.
The incident took place on Monday after the victim was reportedly followed from Kraal Market in Ago-Are to his filling station and subsequently to his home, where three armed men seized him at gunpoint and took him to an unknown location.
The young girl sustained injuries during the attack and was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment and removal of pellets.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, stating that it was reported to the Tede Division at approximately 10:20 p.m. on May 11, 2026. He identified the victim as Alhaji Wasiu Aleshinloye and the injured girl as Modinat Aleshinloye, aged 10, who was immediately rushed to hospital following the attack.
Ayanlade further disclosed that investigators recovered three expended ammunition shells, which are currently undergoing ballistic examination, as well as three face caps retrieved for forensic analysis. He added that tactical and intelligence-driven operations are actively underway to rescue the victim unharmed and bring those responsible to justice.
The incident comes months after a separate kidnapping in the Monatan area of Lagelu Local Government Area, where a 60-year-old trader was abducted by four masked gunmen while making her way home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road.
