The presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party for the 2027 general election, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, has named Hon. Chinazam Ike as his running mate.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Abbas's Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Jacob Dickson, who said the choice of Ike reflects the party's commitment to presenting what it described as a united, inclusive and youth-driven leadership for Nigeria.

Abbas said the decision reflects the party's unwavering commitment to building leadership that represents the aspirations of all Nigerians, adding that together, they are determined to offer a credible alternative capable of restoring hope, strengthening national unity, promoting economic prosperity and delivering purposeful governance.

The statement described Ike, who hails from Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, as a politician, entrepreneur and youth advocate with more than two decades of leadership and political experience.

It noted that he has held several leadership positions, including former Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties in Nigeria, as well as National Youth Leader of the Action Democratic Party.

According to the statement, Ike has also served as Project Director of Season.com Nig. Ltd., where he contributed to sustainable housing development and economic growth, and is widely admired for his integrity, visionary leadership, inclusiveness and commitment to youth empowerment, national development and democratic values.

The party described the Abbas-Ike ticket as representing a generational shift and a renewed national vision anchored on competence, justice, equity, innovation and service, adding that it symbolised the coming together of Nigerians across regional, ethnic and religious divides in pursuit of a more united and prosperous country.

The ADP also appealed to Nigerians, particularly youths, women, professionals, traditional institutions and civil society organisations, to support its presidential bid in the 2027 election, calling on citizens to join what it described as a historic movement toward building a new Nigeria founded on justice, opportunity, security and shared prosperity.

The announcement comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with consultations, coalition talks and internal realignments gathering momentum across the country.

While the ruling All Progressives Congress has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term, opposition parties have stepped up efforts to position themselves as alternatives ahead of the polls.

The Action Democratic Party said it is seeking to broaden its national appeal by projecting youthful leadership and presenting what it described as a fresh governance agenda focused on national unity, economic recovery and inclusive development.
