The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for various entry-level positions across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.

According to a notice published on the commission's recruitment portal, the application window opened on Monday, July 20, and will close on Monday, July 27.

INEC said the recruitment drive forms part of efforts to strengthen its workforce in key areas including electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management, in order to enhance the delivery of its constitutional responsibilities.

The commission urged interested applicants to submit their applications online through its recruitment portal by creating an account, completing the application form and uploading the required credentials.

It also emphasised that the recruitment exercise is entirely free, warning applicants against providing false information or submitting forged documents, and stressing that violators would be disqualified and could face prosecution.

Available positions

The vacancies span three categories. For the Professional Cadre on Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12, INEC is seeking to recruit accountants, clinical officers, lawyers, ICT officers, engineers and quantity surveyors.

Applicants for these roles must possess a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, while some positions may require a master's degree in a relevant discipline.

Candidates are also expected to hold recognised professional certifications such as NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS, ICAN, ANAN or CPN, have at least two years of post-qualification experience, possess an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and demonstrate strong analytical, communication, problem-solving and ICT skills.

For the position of Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) on Grade Level 08, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences from a recognised institution, along with an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate, and demonstrate competence in data management, record keeping and the use of Microsoft Office and other ICT applications.

Candidates applying for the Executive Officer (Registration Officer) position on Grade Level 07 are required to possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent, alongside basic computer proficiency, data handling skills, and good communication and organisational abilities.

General eligibility

INEC said applicants must not be older than 35 years at the time of application and must present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government.

Candidates must also be certified physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer, possess good character with no criminal conviction, be willing to work in any part of the country, and demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.

Application process

Interested applicants are to visit the INEC recruitment portal, create an account using their personal details, email address and National Identification Number (NIN), verify their email address, and select their preferred cadre and vacancy.

Applicants are also required to upload relevant documents, including a passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O'Level result, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate, and NYSC certificate where applicable, before reviewing and submitting their applications.

The commission cautioned that applicants cannot change their selected vacancy after submission, noting that only shortlisted candidates would be contacted for the next stage of the recruitment process.
