Niniola Returns With Emotional New Song After Husbands Death

Months after her husband, Michael Ndika, passed away, Afro-house artist Niniola Apata will release a new song called "O Du Mi."

Her first significant musical endeavor following Ndika's death in May 2026 will be the song, which is slated for release on August 14.

The singer was married to Ndika, the CEO and manager of NaijaReview, for thirteen years.

On social media, Niniola posted heartfelt remarks about her loss, such as "God took him" and "My husband died."

Later, she referred to him as her "best friend, confidant, pillar, business partner and husband."

According to the artist, the new song captures themes of love, grief, and emotional recovery and represents a very intimate time in her life.

Some emotions are too profound to express. She shared a sneak peek of the song along with the message, "So I put them in a song."

She has progressively resumed public appearances and performances in spite of the loss, and she was most recently seen at the record launch of her younger sister Teniola Apata.

"There are no words for a moment like this, but I know he'd want me to keep singing, to keep showing up, and to keep sharing the gift we've always believed in," Niniola said prior to one of her performances, adding that going back to music remained extremely taxing.

As she continues to develop her Afro-house style, her comeback with "O Du Mi" is anticipated to signal a new stage in her career.

Known for tracks like "Maradona" and "Designer," Niniola is still one of Nigeria's top Afro-house performers, fusing modern music with traditional African rhythms.
