A political party director has said their presidential candidate Peter Obi will not hand fuel subsidy money to state governors like President Tinubu is doing.

He also said Obi will not bring back the fuel subsidy scheme, unlike another candidate who recently proposed its return.

Theo Abu Agada, a spokesman for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, said Obi has been consistent about how to handle the fuel subsidy money.

Unlike Atiku Abubakar, who now wants the subsidy back, Obi plans to use the funds differently.

Agada said Obi will put the money directly into the pockets of Nigerians through healthcare, schools, transport and job creation programmes.

He will not let governors keep the money and will not allow the oil dealers who benefited from the old subsidy system to return.

Agada questioned Atiku's position, noting that Atiku wanted the fuel subsidy removed in 2023 when Tinubu took office.

Now he is proposing to bring it back.

Agada said this shows the difference between the candidates.

Obi has remained consistent since 2012 in supporting subsidy removal and deregulation.

But his plan is to manage any remaining funds transparently and use them for the benefit of ordinary Nigerians, not politicians or businessmen who previously profited from the subsidy.
