Omokri Speaks on Tinubu FBI Records, Dismisses Criminality Claims

Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has said there is no criminal record against President Bola Tinubu with the FBI.

He made the statement during a podcast appearance on Tuesday in Abuja, dismissing suggestions that FBI records prove criminality.

Omokri clarified that a record and a criminal record are two different things.

He pointed to an FBI check conducted after a request from Nigerian authorities that came back negative for any criminal arrests, warrants, or wanted status against Tinubu.

The records being discussed publicly by an opposition candidate are old, Omokri said.

They came from a 1993 investigation, not a new case.

Someone filed a Freedom of Information Act request to access those documents, but nothing from 2026 triggered them.

Omokri said his views on Tinubu changed after he investigated claims personally.

He travelled to Chicago with a witness who still supports the opposition candidate and was shown evidence that Tinubu attended university there.

He obtained certified copies of documents relating to a civil forfeiture case that convinced him earlier claims about Tinubu were wrong.

On policy, Omokri noted that many of Tinubu's economic moves match proposals he had backed when working with the opposition.

Fuel subsidy removal, currency reform, giving power back to states, and student loans were all things he had advocated for.

The current administration is implementing them.

Omokri defended the removal of fuel subsidies, saying bringing them back would drain Nigeria's finances and wouldn't even help Nigerians it would just subsidize West Africa as fuel flowed across borders.

He urged people to judge Tinubu's administration on results, not politics.

He said he remains guided by truth and patriotism.

He expressed confidence that Tinubu would win the next election and called for reconciliation afterwards so Nigeria can continue moving forward.
