Aliko Dangote has said having a male heir to take over his business empire is not important to him, and he can see one of his three daughters eventually running the Dangote Group.

The billionaire businessman said he has been watching his daughters Halima, Fatima and Mariya and is confident that one of them has what it takes to lead the conglomerate.

All three hold senior positions in the family business and got involved because they're genuinely interested, not because he pushed them.

Dangote believes his daughters are highly educated and could potentially take the company even higher than he has.

He said all three daughters are capable of running the business forward.

When asked if he still hoped for a son, he dismissed it as not a priority, saying God controls everything and a son might actually damage the family name.

Even if he had a male child, Dangote said he doubts the son would perform better than his three daughters.

However, succession planning goes beyond just choosing a family member to lead.

His main goal is building a professional management structure with strong corporate governance that would allow the company to thrive regardless of who's in charge.

He pointed to multinational companies like Microsoft and Apple as examples of businesses that have continued growing beyond their founders.

Dangote wants to ensure the company can't be destroyed by any family member and that its survival doesn't depend solely on his family.

His broader legacy, he said, is to help industrialise the African continent, a goal he believes other Africans will join him in pursuing over the next few years.
