PDP Still Hopeful About Jimi Agbaje's Emergence Lagos Governor

The People's Democratic Party, PDP chapter of Lagos state is far from giving up on the gubernatorial position as the leadership of the party hopes for the emergence of the party's gubernatorial candidate, Jimi Agbaje through a court injunction.

Lagos state PDP Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani has continued to fault the democratic process that ushered in Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state. While speaking with Punch, Mr Taofik Gani regarded Ambode's victory as a miscarriage of justice. He accused the tribunal of not following the claims of both parties.

“We see the ruling of the tribunal as a miscarriage of justice. It is at variance with the law because even the prayers of the petitioner and the defendant were left out only for the panel to bring up an action saying that the PDP ought to have requested for a re-election which was not part of our prayers”, Gani said.

He also revealed that the nomination of Ambode for the gubernatorial contest by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress is not valid as the notice given to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to meet the deadline strictly set by the electoral body.

"So, it is our intention to challenge this at the Appeal Court and we are optimistic that the court will upturn the ruling and that is why we are telling the people of Lagos to be patient as their mandate will soon be returned to them.

“We believe that the APC will go the extra mile to deny us our mandate but we will fight them to a logical conclusion. We are also considering petitioning the National Judicial Council over the manner in which the panel handled our case. It is not within the power of any court to have made that ruling.”

The All Progressives Congress representatives believes strongly the election was free and fair. Ambode according to them represents the desires of  Lagosians.
