Joshua Hayden, a mere 19-year-old hunter has been left with a black eye and broken jaw after a kangaroo he was stalking headbutted him in the face.
According to The Sun UK, the animal - one of a group of three he spotted while out shooting - launched itself at his car while he was lining up a shot.
The teenage hunter said he was knocked unconscious for about 30 seconds by the violent blow.
He told the ABC he and his brother were hunting kangaroo in a paddock in Kellerberrin, Western Australia, when they spotted the group.
Joshua then leaned out the window of the moving car as he lined up a shot at one of them.
At the same time, one of them disappeared from his sight. Moments later it launched itself at the vehicle.
He said: "It actually collided with the side of the car and smashed the front window.
"Then it bounced back onto me and headbutted me straight in the jaw. I woke up and my brother was trying to tell me what happened."
He was taken to a local hospital before being referred to Royal Perth Hospital, where he was told he would have to wait 10 days before undergoing surgery because his face was too swollen to operate.
Shocked Joshua said it was the first time he had ever encountered a kangaroo - renowned for its punching abilities - to fight back.
