Shocker: Man Forces Young Girl To Kneel Down And Watch As He Stabs Her Own Boyfriend To Death

In what will come across as a really shocking development, a man has forced a girl to watch as he killed her boyfriend.

Police say Baum tied up two teenagers, stabbed them to death and dumped their bodies in an abandoned Utah mine shaft

A twisted killer forced a 17-year-old girl to kneel and watch as he stabbed her boyfriend to death before slitting her throat, a court has heard.

Jerrod Baum, 41, was charged with murder and kidnapping in Salt Lake City, Utah, after the bodies of two slain teenagers were recovered from a mine shaft.

Baum is accused in court papers of forcing Brelynne Otteson to kneel before the mine shaft in Utah and watch as he beat and stabbed her 18-year-old boyfriend Riley Powell before 'she had her own throat cut and was also thrown into the open mine' according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

He was charged with two counts each of aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and abuse or desecration of a human body, as well as one count each of obstructing justice and being a felon in possession of a dangerous weapon.

When asked by the judge if he understood the charges that had been filed against him, Baum murmured, “Yes, sir.”

The teens have been missing since December 29 but after Baum's girlfriend Morgan Henderson was found with weapons in her car after an unrelated traffic stop, she led them to the mine where police eventually recovered their bodies last Wednesday.

The teens were stabbed to death after visiting Henderson whose boyfriend had warned her not to have male visitors, Utah County sheriff's officials said.

Henderson told police that on the night in December, she believed Riley and Breezy had left the property but Baum led her outside where she saw the teens tied up in the back of Riley’s Jeep.

Baum said Brelynne, above, was "innocent"

It's alleged Baum told Henderson to get into the Jeep, which he then drove to an abandoned mine shaft known as the Tintic Standard No. 2 and used a knife to kill the teens and dumped their bodies, according to the probable cause statement.

Riley and Brelynne were found down a hole large enough to swallow a car near the desert town Eureka, about 75 miles  south of Salt Lake City, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The shaft is almost 1,800 feet deep, and if the bodies hadn't landed on a shallow ledge they might never have been recovered, he said.

The charges against Baum are based on admissions to police from Henderson, who said Baum told her he had made Riley suffer, but "felt bad" about Brelynne - who he said was "innocent" so he made her death "quick and painless."

Baum, who will appear in court later this month, has been remanded at Utah County Jail without the opportunity to post bail.

The families of the two teenagers called for the closure of the abandoned Utah mine shaft where they were dumped as a state mining official said she's hoping it can be sealed off.

Western America is dotted with abandoned mines, and there are about 20,000 in Utah alone, Hollie Brown said, spokeswoman for the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining.

"Sadly, it's a great place to go and dispose of, unfortunately, bodies and other items," she said.
