Police have begun a murder investigation after a 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed at a secondary school.
Police have detained a boy and begun a murder investigation after a 16-year-old died of his injuries in hospital.
Officers have detained a boy, also aged 16, following the lunchtime attack at Cults Academy in the west of Aberdeen. The injured boy was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he died from his injuries
Aberdeen Police have confirmed they are treating the incident as a murder investigation. Officers are still at the school and the detained pupil is understood to be assisting officers with their inquiries.
A police spokesman earlier said: “Police Scotland can confirm that following reports of an incident at Cults Academy at approximately 1.30pm today, one male pupil has been taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. A further male has been detained and is currently assisting officers with their inquiries. Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and officers will remain at the scene for the time being. Next of kin are aware.”
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman confirmed the incident saying: “We are aware of a serious incident at Cults Academy today. Police are on site. Due to the nature of this incident, we will not be issuing further comment.”
