A young Nigerian girl who was just five years old girl has been crushed by a hit-and-run car on New Airport Road Calabar, Daily Post reports.
The incident happened Saturday shortly after a businessman was kidnapped during a heavy downpour on the same airport road.
The businessman simply identified as Bassey owns a shop close to the main gate to the University of Cross River State.
The abductors were said to have arrived in a Toyota Camry car and a bus.
The victim, it was reported, put up resistance but the men roughened, overpowered and whisked him away in the waiting vehicles.
Eyewitnesses said the kidnappers shot into the air as they sped off with Bassey.
Neighbours confirmed it is the second time Bassey has been kidnapped within the space of two years.
They disclosed that Bassey, in his middle years, hails from Ndupoise community in Nsit Ibom LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
The kidnap happened even as the new Commissioner of Police, Balarabe Sule is about to take over from Alhassan Aminu who said last Friday on Sparkling FM radio that the major crimes he battled in the state were cultism and kidnapping.
Meanwhile, the name of the five-year-old girl crushed by the speeding vehicle was given as Goodnews Umoren.
An eyewitness told our reporter that the vehicle hit Goodness, smashing her head on the tarred road where she was said to have died soon after.
The witnesses blamed the very poor state of the road at Efio Anwan Junction off New Airport Road where the incident happened Saturday afternoon.
The driver of the vehicle was said to have driven off after hitting the child.
DSP Irene Ugbo, the State Police Public Relations Officer said she will speak on the two incidents when briefed by her officers.
