A 39-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Tope Oladiji, has been dragged to court.
He was arraigned before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State for allegedly threatening to use a cutlass to kill his father.
The defendant was docked before the court on one-count charge of threat to life.
According to the allegations, the defendant broke the law on October 28, 2022, contrary to and punishable under Section 86(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The charge sheet stated in part, “That you, Tope Oladiji, did threaten the life of one Kolawole Oladiji with a cutlass on October 28, 2022 at about midnight at Holy Trinity Italuowo, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 86 (2) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37.
While pleading not guilty to the charge brought before him, the Prosecutor, Iyabo Omolara, a Superintendent of Police informed the court that she would call two witnesses to testify in the case.
The prosecutor requested a date in order to analyze the case file as the defendant was not represented in court by counsel.
Toyin Olowookere, the presiding magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the amount of N50,000 with one surety in the same amount.
The surety must be a resident of the jurisdiction, and must affix a passport photocopy of a legitimate ID Card.
The trial date was subsequently adjourned for December 8, 2022.
